Lhasa, "the place of gods", the heart and soul of Tibet, the destination of devout pilgrimage,
is also a city of wonders. The Potala Palace, a vast white and red
fortress, dominates the Lhasa skyline. Once the seat of Tibetan
government and the location of the tombs of previous Dalai Lamas, the
Potala serves as a symbolic focus for Tibetan aspirations. The Jokhang temple, 2km to the east,
the holiest place of this holy land, is the
spiritual heart of the city. The Jokhang square, the Barkhor Street, the
never-stopping Kora crowds, are things visitors spend a long time loitering. No
matter you are first time visitor or experienced backpacker, a devout
pilgrim or an on-looker, there're always something for you in Lhasa.
Lhasa is a holy land, it can also be a romantic place. Enjoying the sunshine,
chattering away with fellow tourists, loitering at bars, staring at the
worshipping crowds could all become the main subject of dawdling away in Lhasa. For further enquiry please feel free to mail us: enquiry@AccessTibet.com |
